I don’t know, I haven’t seen it yet— there was obviously That Poster, but this article hits some red flags for me, too. (Scarlett Johansson is about her ass no matter what she does, or who she’s playing, female characters having sex outside of monogamous relationships, oh no.) What does tumblr think?

I agree about the objectification, and it’s a testament to the sad state of things that I didn’t even really notice until this review called it out, I’m so used to it. But I disagree with most else. Natasha is definitely not the weakest Avenger; she gets a lot of story and lines and action for herself, and she is the strongest emotionally, the most practical and dependable and level-headed. I’m disappointed she’s the only female member of the team, but she herself is great.

Also: just because Pepper Potts and Maria Hill didn’t fly around beating up aliens doesn’t mean they’re not strong female characters. I hate this tying of female characters’ worth to their fighting ability.

Pepper’s organization of Stark Enterprises actually hit with me- my ADHD means I need a lot of outside support and I love that Pepper does that for Tony. In her small scene, Pepper showed she was definitely the one in control of her and Tony’s relationship, she helped out the team, and she was generally awesome.

I was so happy when I recognized Maria Hill. I love the diversity of the three female characters in this movie tbh. She’s the perfect soldier and also has several moments of awesomeness.

So no, I don’t think this movie had weak female characters.
